A day before the iPhone 3G’s announcement, Samsung unveiled the Omnia (SPH-i900). The smartphone, set to take on the iPhone, boasts a slew of functions and features including a 3.2-inch full touch-screen, 5-megapixel camera, GPS, 32GB memory, Bluetooth 2.0 and Wi-Fi wireless networking. The Samsung Omnia, smaller than the iPhone, fits neatly in the palm. Its high-resolution camera, memory and communications specs also outdo the iPhone, not to mention the Omnia’s haptic feedback technology. The Omnia uses Microsoft’s Windows Mobile 6.1 operating system, enabling a variety of applications such as e-mail, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Samsung revealed its SGH-i900 mobile, dubbed “Omnia” ― meaning “everything” in Latin. The phone has a 3.2-inch screen with enhanced wireless internet capabilities such as HSDPA at 7.2Mbps and Wi-Fi, as well as a 5-megapixel camera, accelerometer functions and even an extended memory option of up to 16 gigabytes. Samsung SGH-i900 runs on Windows Mobile 6.1 operating system. The handsets haptic feedback makes the phone vibrate when users touch its screen. Samsung Omnia phone comes ahead of the iPhone release, which is slated for early today.

Philips has officially launched its Xenium X800 e2e touchscreen phone. However, the phone is apparently lacking a lot of features that are in-demand nowadays. Toting only GPRS network support (Yes, 3G is a no-no and not even EDGE), 2 megapixel camera and ho-hum 2.9-inch screen, it doesn’t appear to be anywhere near the makings of an “iPhone Killer.”
