Western Digital is placing a new kind of power in the hands of computer users across the globe: GreenPower. This is the name of the storage brand’s latest line of hard disk offerings, standing out among the rest because its eco-friendly engineering which translates to up to 40% reduction in power consumption. The new drives are available for desktop, enterprise, consumer electronics and external drive use. The GreenPower platform ensures efficient energy conservation, as well as utra-cool, quiet and reliable performance, as enabled by the following innovative features: IntelliPower, which balances spin speed, transfer rate and cache size; IntelliPark, which automatically unloads the drive heads during idle time resulting in lower power usage; and IntelliSeek which is responsible for optimizing seek speeds to minimize power, noise, and vibration.
The first drive to take advantage of WD’s new GreenPower technology is the WD Caviar GP. And the new additions of WD RE enterprise drives and WD AV consumer electronics drives.
